Why work with me?

Capable Spaces was founded by Karen Maurer in 2018, who has been an OT working for over 23 years, with most of her career time working as a community OT. She is building a team of experienced clinicians who are also keen to help share their skills and experience with the AT community.

We are passionate about training up the OTs of the future, and want to cheer on anyone who wants to do their best job to help people to live in their homes despite disabilities or health conditions.

To Live Well, with purpose and meaning.

Karen has been running practical training courses over the last decade since when working in many roles at Hunter New England Health, and then transitioning into the private sector. She loves finding resources and collating these to help other clinicians and students so that they can grow their skills, and work more effectively and efficiently.

Work smarter, not harder.

This training aims to save you time as you learn from the mistakes we’ve made along the way, so you can hit the ground running and get better AT outcomes for your clients.

After working at an equipment pool for over a decade in the Hunter, Karen has an appreciation of maximising the power of AT, working collaboratively with the AT team, and making creative solutions from resources that are available. She loves developing her skill in matching the AT to the person, their environment and their functional needs.

So I created the AT Framework

Since starting private practice, Karen has been building networks with many other experienced clinicians, drawing on the skills of others who she can ask for support when she needs it. Her goal is to share this model of networking across Australia, creating an AT Community to give this same opportunity to others who have so far been doing this journey without support.

My promise to you

I will be in your corner. I will encourage you, challenge you and get you to think outside the box. I have been there before, and am working actively in the trenches, seeing clients just like you. I will bring real-world experiences, and will let you know the behind the scenes thinking and even let you know about what happens when things go wrong. We will take the literature and apply it in the real world. We will be real and honest with you, and encourage you to keep going.

This is a safe space for you to ask your questions- you can ask us the things that you don’t want to ask your managers. It’s a training room for motivated OTs to grow and build your skills. If you are READY to become the AT professional that you know your clients need you to be, The AT Framework will help you get there.

What I Expect from you

You to play full out. To be open to learn new ways of doing things, and build stronger foundations. To have a no-excuses policy. To show up for the group training and be active in your learning and sharing with the OTs around you. Because achieving great outcomes for your clients is why we’re here. You’re empowering and building dignity into the lives of those around you.

It’s your time to step up so you can step into EVERYTHING you want in your OT career.

Looking forward to working with you, learning together and cheering you on.
